Nigerian rapper Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, has shared reasons why he lost his celebrity boxing match to singer Portable, whose real name is Habeeb Badmus Okikiola.
The two celebrities fought each other on Saturday morning in a boxing match held at the Balmoral Events Centre in Lagos.
Portable emerged as the winner after the first round when Speedy could not continue the fight, having suffered an injury.
The rapper left the ring in bandages and had to be taken away in an ambulance.
However, hours after his defeat, Speedy has taken to social media to explain why he believes he lost the fight.
According to Speedy, Portable must have used ‘juju’ (black magic) as he couldn’t really tell what was happening in the ring during the fight.
While Speedy admitted that he dislocated his shoulder because he was swinging wide, he insisted he didn’t get tired.
The rapper allayed fears over his health in the aftermath of the fight as he revealed his dislocated shoulder had been popped back in while inside the ambulance.
Additionally, Speedy lamented losing the prize money to Portable. He said he’d planned to spend the money on building a swimming pool in his village.
“My shoulder come dislocate, I no know wetin happen, whether na the juju wey Portable carry come. I neva tire o, my shoulder just comot. It wasn’t a sharp pain but I couldn’t use it anymore, it was out of commission. Omo, me I think say na because I dey swing wide, if to say e break, I for no do this one, e no break, e just dislocate but dem don put am back in.
“Ambulance dey there so they put am back in but they say if you continue, e go end up surgery. The thing wey dey pain me now na all that money wey dey go carry give Portable, me I wan build swimming pool for my village, e pain me, I for do my own juju. That’s what it is mehn, the fight is over.”
It is worth noting that Speedy said nothing about a rematch.
